The Reckoning

Defeated. Crushed. Now left only to blow on the embers of what was once an inferno. Nursing the sapling of hope, helping it to punch its way though the bile, to bloom brightly once again.
It was not always this way, the cold night in control. Before the Darkness, a warm light covered and protected all. Never allowing the aura of death near, with movements guided by the heavens; the Protector watched over all.
Fate would soon show its hand.
Mocking laughter. Ringing and reverberating like church bells of the damned. The dark agent of chaos was on a mission, one that would change it all. Merciless and without regard, the specter would not be stopped.
Destroy. Destroy. The mantra was of unholy origin, drawing its power from the evil that was the Night. Nothing would stop it. Not the cries of a thousand souls, nor the pain of a dying world. The battle would soon be over.
Futility. No matter how fierce, or full of rage the assault would not give in. All would not be for naught. Throwing himself to the void with no self-regard, fighting for the dreams of so many, for the voices that have become silenced. No matter the cost, he would never give up. One day, the light would shine over all again. He would not be defeated.
The fight will never end for he, until what was lost has been regained. Take stock of what you hold, before the darkness comes for you.
