The Disease Called Love

n my time I have felt many things: Sorrow, grief, laughter and love. Love, the elixir of joy, the catalyst of life. But what is love, a feeling in your heart? No. Love is a disease. A virus; it storms into your life, takes up space in a vital area, uses you to make more of itself to spread, and you can’t make it leave. When it does it rips out roots, razing trust and just like a virus; destroys that which it has infected. Love. No known cure, antibody or vaccine will save you from its wrath. And when it does leave your life, it does so in a way that devastates your heart and mind, ripping away anything near it in the process. What..'s left behind is a shell. A cold empty shell of what used to be strong. Drained, weakened and almost destroyed by the virus.

And what of the emptiness left behind? What of its life, destiny and how it fits into things? Life is not without a sense of humor, if a sick and twisted version of it, for that emptiness, the left over battlefield of a great war, acts like a black hole; everything is consumed and annihilated, eating and devouring hope, joy, courage and what little is left from loves destructive writhing.
What stops the void? The defense force of the heart against love; rage, hate, and anger. All of these fill in the black precipice of the heart, and thrive in the desolation, the lack of anything good and pure.

Yet like a drug we seek it out in greater and greater amounts, to replace what was taken and what was lost. The cycle repeats until finally all that’s left is the shell. Unable to love, no longer a ripe target to infest, love abandons it to fade away and die. Love itself remains like a predator waiting for its next prey, it’s next host to infect, corrupt and finally leave to die.

Love is nothing but an evil force that in the end destroys more than it ever could have saved. Love is the death stroke of the heart, the final blow. For if you are hit with it, you will surely be another victim to it’s power. One day you will look at yourself, your heart, your loves and only see the shell of a burnt out, hollow shadow of a human being who’s one mistake was embracing love like a savior, only to be scorned by it like so many others.

Love is nothing. Nothing wanted, nothing needed and if you too embrace it as I once did, that’s what you’ll feel inside; nothing. Love has taken everything away, and you will never reclaim your heart.
