The Cosmic Race
| Come my quarks, listen close while you rest I'll share the story of how the forces of the Universe found out who is the best. It started, as always, between the lords of Space and Time Each claiming to be the better, arguing over who was the most divine So after much discourse the answer came from the lord of Space; "To find out who is the best, I challenge you to a race!" They agreed and tried to set a time and a place Which is hard when you don't conform to 3-dimensions of space The other Forces found out about the race in their own way "This isn't fair!" they cried, "we want in as well! We need our own say!" So gathered they did all in one place to plan the great and glorious race. Enthropy was supposed to umpire but tripped over Chance, falling flat on it's face. Fate stepped in at the needed time and took over the job , making rules to follow and systems of control Surveying the course, marking the way. Setting the start with a giant Celestial Pole. Chaos, of course, didn't like the way things were being run. So when no-one was looking he snuck up behind Fate and liberated the starting gun With a big *BANG* he was off! Leaving the rest of the Furies behind in stellar dust. "Damn you! You're supposed to wait for everyone!" Order screamed, lamenting the unjust But Chaos didn't care; he was already halfway past Alpha Centari So far ahead he took the time to re-arrange a galaxy to read "Sorry" But by now all bets were off; the Furies were pissed and weren't going to bluff. The Lords of Time and Space, coming into agreement for once, simply said "Enough." The Lord of Time rippled through it all slowed everything down to a crawl But he didn't think it completely through; his power affected them all! The Lord of Space simply laughed and spread his arms, folding space in half like a melted candy bar "It's not a straight line that's the shortest length" Space boomed, "when here and there are the same nothing is too far" But like his brother Time he didn't contemplate what he had done Instead of folding space he merged it, folding the Furies into one! Order merged with Chaos, causing much strife Fate with Chance Enthropy with Life And the Lords themselves, spun in a hypnotic trance It was then Time and Space realized the truth; there was no better at all. They had always been the same with no true reason to brawl. Without one the other was powerless, power only half realized But together they were complete with a power never idealized |
